Position Summary
Conduct testing using mainly mass spectrometry to perform high-complexity testing in a CLIA-accredited and ISO 17025 compliant clinical and forensic toxicology chemistry laboratory to support both the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) and the Nebraska Public Service Laboratory (NPSL). Follow all safety and laboratory policies and procedures, maintain required documentation and instrumentation, support research testing as needed, and maintain competency in all testing methods.

  • Knowledge and ability to complete basic clinical chemistry lab practices.

Preferred Education: Master's degree or equivalent

Preferred Experience:
  • Two or more years’ experience in a clinical or research laboratory.
  • Experience with mass spectrometry, Fourier Transform Infrared applications, CAP/ISO regulations, Quality Assurance Plans, Quality Control, and Chain of Custody.
Preferred License: No

Preferred Computer Applications: Microsoft PowerPoint
Preferred Other Computer Applications: Scientific analysis software, Laboratory Information Systems such as Sunquest or Beaker
Preferred Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Skilled in basic and complex clinical chemistry lab practices, including using and calibrating pipettes, handling of blood, urine, and other body fluids, aseptic technique, handling of chemicals and dangerous materials, preparation and labeling of solutions and calibration materials, HIPAA policies, advanced use of computers and software, and maintaining records of all work completed.
