Schedule: 24hr call 7 am - 7 am or 12hr call 7 pm - 7 am night call
Average admissions on call: 1 - 3
Trauma Level Designation: Level III
On-site not needed after rounding - 30 min response time
APP/Mid-level coverage is available
APP/Mid-level shifts times 7 am - 7 am
Average admission while on call: 1-3
AVG Cases per Day: 1-3 or 133 a year
What You'll Do
Rounding with PA in a.m. and performing any necessary procedures that may come up throughout the day
Physician assistant takes the calls, and the surgeon is only contacted if there are urgent or emergent issues
Rounding 2-4 hours, depending on how many surgical patients were completed that week. Typically, round together with the PA that is on with them
Typical Cases: Open Heart, Carotid, and possibly lung cases.
PAs can do Endovascular Saphenous Vein Harvesting (EVH)
Consults are taken by the PA and then discussed via phone with the physician to determine next steps.
Requirements
Boards: Must be certified in cardiac or both cardiac and thoracic
Certs: ACLS, BLS
License: MD or IMLC Active
Minimum Experience: 2 years
